How to know when you need a fractional CMO

  1. You aren’t meeting your organizational or revenue goals.
  2. Your marketing department lacks the experience or strategy to navigate market changes or new initiatives.
  3. Your company needs a scalable growth plan but does not have the budget for a full-time CMO.
  4. You are considering succession plans or the sale of your business.

What is a fractional CMO?

A fractional CMO or chief marketing officer is an experienced marketing leader who joins your executive team on a fractional or part-time basis.

From an executive level, the CMO facilitates a company’s growth, sales and marketing strategy. They drive the organization towards clear business objectives such as revenue generation, cost reduction, or risk mitigation.

The fractional CMO understands the different marketing channels and best practices and recognizes how technology can be used as an advantage in various work setups. They have extensive experience understanding business and marketing problems and proposing the right approach.

They come with a strong background in managing diverse groups of resources and the skills to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

Michael P. Chenier

I am a marketing executive and strategist with over 20 years of experience in all aspects of marketing across a diverse range of industries. Throughout my career, I have been driven by a passion for sales and a deep understanding of the marketing processes that enable small to medium-sized businesses to thrive in today’s dynamic and competitive economy.

As a Fractional CMO, I specialize in helping businesses achieve their goals by developing comprehensive marketing strategies that align with their unique needs and objectives. I work closely with clients to identify opportunities for growth and implement effective tactics to reach their target audiences and maximize their return on investment.

What I do as your fractional CMO

As your chief marketing officer (CMO), I’ll begin by auditing your current marketing efforts and building your business development strategy and marketing plan.

Prioritizing initiatives, we’ll budget together, allocate available resources, and set up a reporting and accountability structure.

I’ll lead the improvement of your positioning, differentiation, messaging, and brand while also developing the plans and campaigns to increase current customer revenue, increase leads and improve lead quality, and orchestrate strategic initiatives such as product launches or penetration of new markets.

I will work with you to ensure all your sales procedures and presentations reflect your brand, identifying weaknesses and ensuring a positive conversion rate.

Duties include:

A fractional CMO is positioned in a leadership role within an organization. They bring their skills and expertise and, like others on the leadership team, are responsible for the implementation and outcome.

Consultants are frequently hired to assess the situation and organization, develop plans, direct leaders on performance, and rely on the client’s team to take it from there; fractional CMOs ensure everyone who is required for the plan’s success stays on track and strategy. As a result, teams are aligned, morale is high, the strategy supports accomplished goals, resources are allocated appropriately, and this is more confidence in the leadership.

If company leaders are experiencing less-than-expected results, a consultant who provides a report and leaves before implementation rarely produces the change needed.

Unlike consultants, fractional CMOs bring the diverse skills and expertise required with a hyper-focus on finding, connecting, and speaking to the business objectives and marketing plan.

Fractional CMOs are hands-on leaders who partner with CEOs to make the necessary strategic assessments and lead the teams within the organisation to implement the strategies and drive desired results.

A fractional CMO is the same as a part-time CMO, but fractional means that the time spent by your CMO will be shared amongst multiple companies they are serving. I work with up to a maximum of four non competing clients at one time.

An ideal company to benefit from the advantages of fractional CMO services is a small to medium sized business looking to accelerate growth and increase revenue through targeted, effective marketing strategies. My expertise is particularly well-suited for companies with a limited internal marketing team or those lacking the time, resources, or expertise to independently execute a comprehensive marketing plan.

My clients value strategic thinking, data-driven decision-making, and a results-oriented marketing approach.

Typically my clients:

  • Have existing annual revenues exceeding 650K
  • Have been in business for 10 years or more
  • Are in B2B sectors including engineering, manufacturing and professional services

If you are committed to growth, open to collaboration, and eager to leverage the expertise of a seasoned marketing professional, I would be honored to participate in your success.

I work with clients for three, six and twelve-month terms.

My fees are $5000/month for three and six-month terms.
Twelve-month terms are $4500/month

I am currently working in Nice, France. All scheduled meetings occur via What’s App, Zoom or Skype during business hours in your time zone.

I frequently work in North American, European and Oceana timezones concurrently.
